About Us
The Center for Reaching and Teaching the Whole Child is an Organizational Research Unit in the Lurie College of Education at San Jose State University. Funding for this site is provided by an endowment from the Connie L Lurie College of Education.
We hope to become your one-stop source for learning about the social emotional dimension of learning, its connection to academic performance, and how to raise awareness of this important dimension in schools.
Our mission is to promote the essential role of the social-emotional dimension of learning in raising healthy and happy children and closing the achievement gap in preK-12 schools in the Bay area.
Our vision is an environment where all children are supported to reach their full potential and participate constructively in our democracy, and where the achievement gap among different groups of students no longer exists. In this world, school climate and social-emotional needs of children are routinely addressed in preK – 12 schools and in the preparation and ongoing development of professionals in the field of education.
